I absolutely love these jeans! They sit perfectly low in front (without being ridiculously low), and higher in the back so I don’t have to worry about things I don’t want showing everytime I bend over. I do recommend getting a size smaller than you normally would because the little bit of stretch they have in them seems to make them loosen up after wearing them for a little while. I’m so mad at Levi’s for discontinuing these jeans! I’ve tried on the line that is supposed to be replacing the 545 low boot cut, and they do NOT fit the same, or look as flattering. Thumbs down to Levi’s marketing department, thumbs up to the 545 low rise boot cut! Grab them while you can.

While much of the negative commentary concerned Levi Strauss’s move away from domestic manufacturing has focused on the button-fly 501s, the bigger problem I have seen is with the old 1970’s standby, the 505, which has a zipper as opposed to button fly. The variability on sizing and sew quality with the 505s is an issue if you are going to buy them online or mail order. You really have to try them on to see how they fit. The 501 are much easier to buy online or by mail order because the sizing is much less critical on the waist, which is the so-called “anti-fit” waist, meaning there is no curve to the rise (the distance between the crotch and the top of the waist), because the original 501s were merely cut down bib overalls which were made to hang, rather than be fitted to the waist. The biggest problem I have noted on the 505’s is the variability in size in the thigh area, meaning that some fit baggy and some seem rather tight, even though they are theoretically the same size of a label. Since the 501s are more forgiving as far as sizing, if you are buying online you might consider them instead of 505s, unless you don’t want the button fly.

Levi’s inconsistent standard, April 12, 2008

This is the second pair of levis i ordered through amazon. it was identical to the first pair except the first was made in lesotho the second in egypt. both were 36×29, but the second, the one under review here, the one of egyptian manufacture, was somewhat tighter, really almost too tight, and the button hole was too small, had to be forced. clearly levi strauss no longer has the standard for which they were famous, and here as in so much else caveat emptor (latin for ‘buyer beware’).

Pants are good, as expected from Levis, but the very annoying problem here is the distributor: Bealls Florida.

Their “customer support” is a total shame, they insulted me in my second order because I complained about their shipping method. I deleted 114 items from my wishlist that were from Bealls Florida and will never purchase again from them. Item 5 stars, Bealls Florida -5 stars.

I’m a fairly simple shopper when it comes to clothes. I buy most of my pants from Sears, and those are always Levi 550s. They are, quite simply, the most appealing jeans I’ve worn, and I’ve been wearing them exclusively for about 5 years now. They don’t tear that easily and they hold up for a long time if you take care of them and wash them on a regular basis. While it is true that some other brands, such as Lee, have somewhat softer material, I’ve always returned to these workhorses. I prefer black usually, which has the normal problem of fading to gray after a time, but they stay black for a respectably long time. Perfect for everyday situations. I really don’t see a reason to wear any other jeans!

Overall, I’ve been getting more and more disgusted when I purchase jeans. I mean, I’m not a teenager so I am simply not interested in torn up, faded jeans that cost as much as a car payment. I also have seen the trend towards really thin fabrics, like jeans are just for looks, and durability is no longer something that is high on the list of desirable qualities. The Levis brand is one that I feel like I can always come back to and have a decent sense of what I’ll get. I will say that the fabrics have gotten thinner over the years, but are still generally thicker and better manufactured than the other jeans I have tried. I have ordered two pairs of the 550s (Med stonewash) and have been pleased with the color. We have a relaxed dress environment at work and I can wear them without looking like I’m trying to emulate the style of a 15 year old.

The old Silver Tab Levi’s were the only jeans my husband would wear. We had to buy used ones on eBay for a while, but now have found these new ones. The style is very close, not quite as baggy as the old style, but still make him happy.

I’ve got two different-colored pairs of these low-rise boot cuts and they’ve made me pretty much retire my other blue jeans. i decided to go with these when i graduated college and needed a more grown-up look (after years of the baggy-pants teenager look) and everyone, from my girlfriend to my parents, loved the change. the boot cut is very subtle, not anything like bell bottoms, but they’re wide enough that they won’t get caught on the tongue of your shoe. i think these jeans look best on more lean men.

People don’t pay attention or research the products they buy. If they did, we wouldn’t have complaints about sizes. Order two inches below your normal waist size for a normal fit that you’re used to. These cargos are meant to hang low per contemporary style. That’s why I ordered a 34 instead of my normal 36 waist size, and they fit perfectly. If you’re a 38, order a 36. If you’re a 34, order a 32. See a pattern here?

Wash the pants with like colors and throw them in the dryer. Mine haven’t shrunk a bit, and I don’t mind their being a little long. I ordered my usual 32L and they were perfect. I have most colors available and wear them almost every day, changing colors by recycling them out of the wash as I go. Once you see how handy the cargo pockets are, you may not go back to keeping your wallet in a hip pocket. Cargos are also great for cell phones, Ipods, handguns, cigarettes, chewing tobacco, paperwork, critters or whatever. I hope they never stop making these pants.

These Levi’s cargo pants are a wonderful addition to my closet. They have plenty of front pockets to put my wallet, palm and keys without having any bulges and they’re always comfortable.

If I put on a polo shirt I’m ready to go to work and the pants can take the wear and tear of a manufacturing environment. If I put a long sleeve shirt I can attend meetings with plant managers and big shots, but I can also put my favorite T-shirt on a Saturday afternoon and go catch a movie or just hang.

I love these pants so much I have 5 of them (different colors, of course).

If loose fit jeans are preferred you may want to look at Levis Silvertab baggy jeans. The style and fit are throw back traditional. Men have liked them for a long time. When Levis production ran below demand used Silvertabs were a huge eBay seller.

This is an easy product to review. Basically, while I feel I’m still too young to wear my trousers up under my armpits, I’m equally too old now to wear them down around my thighs – and I’m not exaggerating there; I’ve seen these dudes with my own eyes. Also, I tried a pair of 501s this summer (apparently, they’re all the rage) and they while they were nice and comfortable, they seemed to hug me in inappropriate places. I feel I could wear them but only if I was feeling particularly adventurous.

These jeans though, are just the ticket. They are nice and loose, smart-looking (they go with everything from tuck-in button down shirts to t-shirts to hoodies to sweaters) and I am able to look somewhat trendy with them worn around my hips without looking like I’m trying too hard to look cool, or like mutton dressed as lamb. They are also very resilient. I have three pairs now, including a pair I bought in 2002, one I got on vacation in the summer and the pair I bought here.

If any of this resonates with you, I recommend you pick up a pair or two with dispatch. I was in my local Levi’s store a few weeks ago and was told they are going to be discontinued. I was shown the model that will be replacing them (the 7-something, I can’t remember the exact number) and I tried on a pair. I didn’t like them even half as much as I like these and that’s when I decided to get an extra pair online. I cannot recommend them highly enough. These are a great pair of jeans.
